A combined group of premier Alaska players born in 1997 and 1998 are heading to Europe this July to take part in the Gothia Cup, the world’s largest and most international youth-soccer tournament. The team is comprised of graduates of Alaska’s first Coerver® Center of Excellence-Elite, most of whom have competed with the AKFC 98 United squad in their four previous out-of-state tournaments.
The trip to Gothenberg, Sweden, for such a tournament represents another level in their development, however, with players gaining the experience of playing against teams from around the world.
Featuring players from four premier clubs in Alaska—Matanuska Soccer Club, Full Force Soccer Club, the Alaska Rush and Cook Inlet Soccer Club—as well as a couple of augmentations from the Seattle-based Coerver® Coaching NW Center of Excellence programs, the international version of AKFC 98 United departs July 13 for their adventure and will take in a number of assorted activities in addition to tournament play, including training, friendlies and tours with their Coerver® Europe counterparts.
